About This Product

■Summary

The MP5981 is an integrated monolithic controller and switch with a high-side power MOSFET (HS-FET) and other circuitry that can operate alone or be controlled via a hot-swap controller. Achieves up to 50A continuous output current (IOUT) per IC at room temperature and up to 60A IOUT with air flow. The IC limits the backplane voltage drop by limiting the inrush current to the load while the circuit card is inserted into a live backplane power supply. Limits the internal MOSFET current by controlling the gate voltage through a current-limit reference input and a soft-start lamp. The MP5981 offers many features that simplify system design, including an integrated current mirror to monitor IOUT and die temperature. This eliminates the need for external current-sensing power resistors, power MOSFETs, and thermal-sensing devices. The IC detects short-circuit conditions between the gate, source, and drain of the power MOSFET. It also provides feedback to the hot-swap controller through the fault reporting output (GOK). The MP5981 is capable of parallel operation for high current applications. During soft-start, all parallel devices actively share current. The MP5981 is available in an LGA-32 (5mm x 5mm) package.
