About This Product

■Summary

The MP5026 is a hot-swap protection device designed to protect output circuitry from input transients. It also protects the input from unwanted shorts and transients from the output. The device delivers up to 20A continuous output current (IOUT) per device at room temperature. The MP5026 limits inrush current to the load when a circuit card is inserted into a live backplane power supply. This limits supply voltage drop. The MP5026 also limits the internal MOSFET current (IFET) by controlling the gate voltage (VGATE) through a low-power resistor and soft-start lamp connected between the ISET pin and ground. The MP5026 offers many features that simplify system design, including an integrated current mirror to monitor IOUT and integrated on-die temperature sensing. This eliminates the need for external current-sensing power resistors, power MOSFETs, and temperature-sensing devices. The maximum load on the output is current limited by the sense MOSFET topology. Current limit is controlled by a low power resistor connected from ISET to ground. The MP5026 provides various fault protections, including overcurrent protection (OCP), short circuit protection (SCP), overtemperature protection (OTP), damaged MOSFET detection, overvoltage protection (OVP), and undervoltage protection (UVP). The MP5026 is available in an LGA-26 (4mm x 4mm) package.
