About This Product

■Summary

The MP5921 is a monolithic integrated controller and switch with a high-side MOSFET and other circuitry that allows standalone operation or control by a hot-swap controller. The MP5921 drives up to 50A continuous current per device at room temperature. When there is air flow, the continuous current can reach 60A. The MP5921 limits the inrush current to the load when a circuit card is inserted into a live backplane power supply, thereby limiting the backplane voltage drop. The MP5921 limits the internal MOSFET current by controlling the gate voltage through a current limit reference input and a soft-start lamp. The MP5921 offers many features that simplify system design. An integrated current mirror is provided to monitor the output current and on-die temperature sensing, eliminating the need for external current-sense power resistors, power MOSFETs, and thermal sensing devices. The MP5921 can detect power FET gate, source, and drain short conditions and provide feedback to the hot-swap controller via a fault reporting output (GOK). MP5921 can be paralleled for high current applications. All paralleled devices actively share current during soft-start. The MP5921 is available in a QFN-28 (4mm x 5mm) package.
