About This Product

■Summary

The MP5516 is a monolithic power management solution designed to manage energy storage and release in enterprise solid state drives (SSDs). It integrates energy management with an input current limit (ILIMIT_E-FUSE) switch and a bidirectional buck-boost converter. Electrical fuses have low on-resistance (RDS (ON) ), current limiting, and reverse current blocking. Configurable ILIMIT_E-FUSE prevents inrush current during startup. Backflow protection prevents backup energy from flowing into a faulty input voltage (VIN) port, maximizing backup energy during power outages. Backup energy is stored in a storage capacitor. MPS' patented energy storage and release management control circuit minimizes storage capacitor requirements. The IC stores a high stored voltage (VSTRG) in capacitance stored energy. In the event of an input failure, this energy is released into the system during the hold time (tHOLD). Both VSTRG and buck release voltage (VBUCK_RLS) can be configured for different system applications. A programmable charge current (ICHARGE) is provided to increase VSTRG in a controllable manner. Constant on-time (COT) control reduces voltage drop during transition between boost charge mode and buck release mode. Only one inductor is required, minimizing the total solution size. The device has an I2C interface and an internal analog-to-digital converter (ADC). ILIMIT_E-FUSE can be configured via I2C. I2C can also perform capacitor health tests. An internal ADC monitors input voltage (VIN), input current (IIN), and input power (PIN). The MP5516 requires a minimal number of standard off-the-shelf external components and is available in a QFN-25 (4mm x 4mm) package.
