About This Product

■Summary

The MP5520 is a highly efficient monolithic converter designed for enterprise and data center solid state drive (SSD) power management. The device integrates a dual-input current-limiting switch (electrical fuse), a bidirectional buck-boost converter, and a bidirectional power-sharing converter. Low on-resistance (RDS (ON) ) electrical fuses are designed for input voltages (VIN) up to 16V and 6V, respectively. Both electrical fuses can limit input current and prevent reverse current flow. Soft start (SS) prevents inrush current during system startup. A bidirectional buck-boost converter provides energy management. Backup energy is stored in high voltage capacitors. MPS' patented energy storage and release management control circuit minimizes storage capacitor (CSTRG) requirements. When a VIN outage occurs, the converter pushes VIN to a higher voltage (VSTRG) and the converter releases energy into the system for a holdup period. A programmable charge current increases VSTRG in a controlled manner. Combined with the backflow prevention feature of electrical fuses, it maximizes backup energy to handle loads during VIN loss. Constant on-time (COT) control is used when the bidirectional converter releases energy from CSTRG to minimize voltage drop when transitioning from charging mode to backup mode. This converter requires only one inductor, minimizing the total solution size. Bidirectional power sharing converters share power between electrical fuses. It can be set to either boost power sharing mode or buck power sharing mode. An internal ADC accurately monitors VINx, input current (IINx), and input power (PINx). To ensure long-term reliability, the MP5520 monitors the health of CSTRG. The MP5520 requires a minimal number of standard off-the-shelf external components and is available in a QFN-37 (5mm x 6mm) package.
