■Unsugi (unsugi) construction material

Cloud cedar, also known as Kumosugi or Unsan (Yunnan cedar), is a coniferous tree belonging to the Pinaceae family and a member of the spruce family. It is also called Dragon Spruce. In Japan, the appearance of standing trees and the taste and appearance of sawn trees are similar, and in order to promote sales, the common names of already known tree species are often reused, and Kumosugi can be said to be one such name. It is a completely different tree from Japanese cedar. It seems that it includes iron cedar of the hemlock type and cold cedar of the fir type, and is sometimes called cloud cedar. It is mainly produced in the Tibetan highlands and is distributed in Yunnan and Sichuan provinces in China. Chengdu in Sichuan Province is one of the areas where cloud cedar is concentrated. In Japan, it is mainly used as interior materials for buildings and fittings such as closet sets, and is sometimes used as household goods for cutting boards. It is not suitable for structural materials because it is light and flexible and does not have high durability. Although it is a member of the Pinaceae family, it is of the spruce genus, so it has little odor or resin. Although it has good workability, it has the disadvantage of being easily broken. I also see Kumosugi Gomagi being sold on the internet. It is called Dragon Spruce, and although it is not as good as Sitka Spruce from North America, it is cheaper. Compatible with a wide range of Japanese and Western styles.
