■What is the main engine remote control device?This is a device that controls the engine installed on a ship from the control panel in the wheelhouse. It also includes engine protection devices and warning devices, which issue a warning in the event of an abnormality in the engine, and if the condition is severe, the engine will be stopped and the engine protected.

■FeaturesYou can switch between forward and backward movement and control the engine speed using a single control handle from the ship's wheelhouse control panel. The control panel is also equipped with an engine tachometer and pressure gauge, allowing you to grasp the operating status. If an abnormality is detected in the engine, a warning indicator light and a sound will notify you of the abnormality.

■Kawasaki joystick general control system (KICS)In combination with a variable pitch propeller, side thruster, and high-performance rudder, maneuverability during port entry and departure can be improved. Controlled by one joystick and one turning dial, the ship can not only move forward and backward, but also move sideways and sail diagonally. It is a control device that can also rotate on the spot.

■Equipment layout diagramVessels usually proceed either forward or backward. The ship will be operated from the wheelhouse shown in this diagram. However, since this device is mainly used when leaving or arriving at a quay when entering or leaving a port, it is operated from a place called a wing where you can clearly see the side of the ship and the quay. Therefore, when equipped with this device, the ship can be operated from the wing in addition to the wheelhouse, so a device for controlling the vessel can also be installed on the port or starboard side, as shown in this diagram.
