■A unique method that reliably and safely detects electrical discharge in bearings used in motors.The SKF Discharge Check Pen (EDD Pen) is a compact, hand-held device that allows you to easily detect electrical discharges occurring in the bearings of electric motors. The discharge occurs from a situation where the motor shaft voltage flows through the bearings to ground. It will cause electrolytic corrosion and decomposition of the lubricating oil, which will damage the bearings. If the electric motor is controlled by a variable frequency operating system, the bearings are susceptible to erosion due to electrical discharges. As a predictive maintenance program, the discharge check pen can detect bearings that are about to fail and prevent downtime due to unexpected machine failure.
