About This Product

■Summary

It is mainly used for carbide drills, but when resharpening the cutting edge, chipping is likely to occur if the cutting edge is too pinned. For this reason, the blade is purposely killed to strengthen the blade edge. This is called edge honing. Additionally, all new drills are honed by machine. However, after repolishing, the polishing is often done manually while checking under a microscope, so there will be variations depending on the craftsman. However, anyone can perform stable machining using our fully automatic cutting edge honing machine.

■What is cutting edge honing?

Refers to the process of intentionally rounding or micro-chamfering the cutting edge of a drill, etc., which has an excessively acute angle. This method makes it possible to remove weak parts of the cutting edge and prevent minute chips (chipping).

■Characteristics of carbide tools

Carbide tools have excellent wear resistance and are suitable for high-speed cutting, but when machining ferrous materials, they have low cutting edge toughness and are prone to chipping. It also has the disadvantage of being more expensive than high-speed steel (HSS). By honing the cutting edge, it is possible to solve all of these disadvantages.

■When there is no cutting edge honing treatment

In particular, the cutting edge of a carbide drill has a relationship of ``sharp = thin and has low rigidity'', and if the cutting edge is sharp, there is a high possibility that it will break if excessive force is applied to it. As a result, the lifespan will be shortened and the defective rate will increase.

■When the cutting edge is honed

In particular, honing a carbide drill has the effect of significantly extending the life of the tool. This significantly reduces the frequency of tool changes.
