■Features

The product is a camera system that allows video observation and quantitative analysis of polarization states. Polarization images can be acquired and analyzed simply by connecting a small camera with a built-in photonic crystal to a PC. With conventional technology, polarization information could only be obtained by comparing and calculating the brightness and darkness of an image while rotating a polarizing filter, but now it is now possible to obtain polarization information by simply taking a picture.

■Operating principle: Differences from normal cameras

-The biggest difference from regular cameras is that a photonic crystal element is placed in front of the CCD. This special element, created using proprietary technology, is made up of approximately 1 million polarizers that are the same size as the pixels (upper right image). With this element, a compact polarization measurement camera was realized. - With the PI-110, by calculating the brightness of four adjacent pixels, you can instantly obtain a. principal axis direction of polarized light, b. average brightness, and c. strength of polarized light components. With conventional technology, it was extremely difficult to achieve high integration of polarizers, so in order to obtain the above polarization information, it was necessary to rotate the polarizer in front of the camera. During this time, the subject had to remain stationary, making video recording impossible. ・Using the self-cloning method, highly integrated polarizer arrays can be easily produced in a single film deposition process. This has resulted in a paradigm shift in the method of acquiring polarization information from conventional time division to space division. The PI-110 is powerful for video recording and high-speed analysis of polarization distribution.

■Application example

・Polarization measurement of laser light: Just by observing the laser light with a polarization imaging camera, you can measure the polarization distribution of the laser light in real time. Can be used in conjunction with an attenuation (ND) filter when measuring high power lasers ・Security: Polarized imaging cameras can cut out reflected light with strong polarized components.It is also possible to actively extract reflected images.
