About This Product

Aluminum is one of the materials that can generate hydrogen from water. However, if you put regular aluminum into water, no gas will be generated. This is because aluminum is easily oxidized, and a passive aluminum oxide film is formed on the surface, blocking reactions. In order for the above reaction to proceed, the presence of a pure activated aluminum surface and its large specific surface area are required. Our company has developed an Al/CNT composite material in which Al is dissolved on the CNT walls and in the nanospaces between CNTs. Aluminum, which has a nanostructure, is highly active and easily generates hydrogen when added to water, and the reaction proceeds until it is finished. If a material containing 1g of aluminum is placed in hot water at around 60℃, approximately 1 liter of hydrogen can be generated in a short period of about 30 minutes. Please note that once this material is used to generate hydrogen, all the aluminum reacts and becomes aluminum hydroxide, so hydrogen generation cannot be repeated.
