About This Product

■VARIVENT® Mixproof Divert Valve

VARIVENT® mix-proof switching valves are used for distributing liquids in pipelines, i.e. from one pipeline to two other pipelines. In this case, one of the two pipelines must be isolated from the exit line using the mix-proof function.

■Valve function

When the valve is closed (inactive position), there are always two seals between the middle and upper pipelines. If one seal is defective at this point, the resulting leak can be intentionally channeled out the leak outlet into the surrounding area without mixing with the product in the second pipeline. The isolation between the middle and lower housings is provided by only one seal, so it is not suitable for separating two incompatible media. This method ensures that no mixing occurs between the product line and the line carrying the cleaning fluid.

■Application example

A typical application for this mixproof valve with switching function is the bypass function after a pasteurizer. For this application, the VARIVENT® mixproof divert valve type Y has been approved by the German Federal Dairy Research Center in Kiel for use after the pasteurizer.

■Switching leakage

Axial seals In double-seat valves, there is a short period of time during each switching step during which the lower valve disc does not come into contact with the intermediate seal of the upper valve disc, nor does it reach the axial seating surface of the seat ring. During this short period of time, liquid can seep into the leakage chamber through the gaps and escape into the atmosphere. This is called switching failure.
