■What is the MF Technology Award?

Sponsored by the Japan Forming Machinery Manufacturers Association, this is the world's highest award for presses, sheet metals, and forming machines that combine essential forging machines, product processing, and research for Metal Forming (MF). In order to prove the quality of forging machines through the quality of the final product, we aim to contribute to the development of forging plastic processing technology by awarding groups that demonstrate the comprehensive manufacturing capabilities of machine manufacturers and processing manufacturers.

■Introduction of award-winning technology 1

“Achieving 1/16th of the press processing limit with UL press” ・Product use: Automotive thick plate flange parts ・Target elements: Forging machines, molds, product processing ・Overview of processing process: Switched from conventional fine blanking to pressing using a UL press. Fine blanking required cutting out the shape, polishing both sides, and then chamfering with a machine. However, by constraining the outer shape of the product with a UL press and processing it with a zero-clearance mold, we were able to achieve processing without sag or damage to the mold, even with a plate thickness of 8 mm. The chamfering of the hole introduction part and the linear protrusions on the inner diameter were all done by press working, and in the end, no machining other than rotary polishing was required.

・Specific results: Previously, the product shape required mechanical processing, but now it can be completed using only press processing and rotary polishing, significantly increasing production capacity and yield, saving energy, and reducing resource consumption.Furthermore, it has become possible to reduce costs by approximately 35% compared to conventional methods.
