About This Product

Satsuma Materasu is a fruit with a high sugar content. Grown on the Satsuma Peninsula in Kagoshima Prefecture, this fruit tomato has a sugar content of 8 or higher and has a harmonious combination of sweetness, richness, and richness with just the right amount of acidity. Please try it once.

■New fruits grown by LED

Grown on the Satsuma Peninsula in Kagoshima Prefecture, this fruit tomato has a sugar content of over 8 and is rich in nutrients such as lycopene. Currently, seedlings are raised using completely artificial light (LED lighting) for about a month from sowing to planting.

■Origin of naming

At the end of 2009, when we started trial cultivation, we asked employees to give us a name and the name was chosen. It was a perfect name because it reminded me of Kagoshima = Satsuma, and when illuminated with LEDs (light emitting diodes), it became sweet like fruit = Amaterasu.

■Seedling raising using LED lighting

LEDs have the light (wavelength) necessary for plant growth, and are said to have various effects. Therefore, the seedlings are grown for about a month (from sowing to planting) in a temperature-controlled room using only nutrient solution and LED lighting. Temperature control is possible, and LED lighting receives the red light (photosynthesis) and blue light (photosynthesis & morphogenesis) necessary for growth, so healthy seedlings can be grown in an environment unaffected by the weather all year round. You can grow. LEDs also consume less power and are less environmentally friendly.

■Low-level dense planting cultivation

Low-level dense planting is a hydroponic cultivation method in which the first and second fruit bunches are harvested by planting at a cultivation density 4 to 5 times higher than normal. Since only the second bunch of fruit is harvested, after harvesting, clean up and plant new seedlings, making stable cultivation possible year-round.

■Hydroponic cultivation

Since the crops are rotated three times a year, cultivation is carried out using hydroponics, which is less likely to cause continuous cropping problems. This cultivation method allows the nutrients necessary for plant growth to be stored in the water. Another feature is that salt stress (osmotic pressure control) for high sugar content can be achieved with simple management.

■High sugar content (Brix8% or more)

We cultivate sweet and delicious tomatoes by concentrating nutrition only on the first flower cluster using a low-level, densely planted cultivation method, and suppressing fruit enlargement due to salt stress. All tomatoes are screened for sugar content using a non-destructive sugar meter, and tomatoes with a sugar content of 8 degrees or higher are branded as "Satsuma Kanteru.
