About This Product

■DescriptionHI3815-100 is a ready-to-use, high-quality reagent that can be used in water testing kits to perform fast and accurate chloride measurements. These reagents determine chloride concentration according to mercuric nitrate titration.

For chloride measurements, the pH of the sample is adjusted to approximately pH 3 with a nitric acid reagent, giving the solution a yellow color. Mercury ions in the titrant react with chloride in the sample. When all the chloride is in the form of mercury chloride, excess mercury ions are present and form a purple complex with the diphenylcarbazone indicator.

The number of milliliters of titrant used to change the color of the solution from yellow to purple determines the chloride concentration in mg/L (ppm). These reagents are designed for use with samples where chloride is expected in the 0-100mg/L (ppm) and 0-1,000mg/L (ppm) ranges.
