About This Product

■Description

The HI3850 is an iodometric water test kit that determines the concentration of ascorbic acid from the number of drops of reagent required to cause a specific color change in the sample. The HI3850 comes with all necessary reagents and equipment to perform the analysis. The test kit contains enough reagents to perform approximately 100 tests. Feature overview

All necessary materials are included in the test kit, including reagent bottles, plastic pipettes, and plastic containers.

■Iodine method

The ascorbic acid concentration in the sample can be easily calculated from the number of drops of reagent HI3850C-0 used.

■Replacement reagents available

No need to buy a new kit when you run out of reagents. The HI3850-100 reagent set can be ordered to replace the reagents included in the kit. This set includes 1 bottle of Ascorbic Acid Reagent A (100mL), 1 bottle of Starch Indicator (25mL), and 1 bottle of Ascorbic Acid Reagent C (100mL).

■Advantages of using

Ascorbic acid and its sodium, potassium, and calcium salts are commonly used as antioxidant food additives. Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) is added to fruit juice-based beverages as a flavoring and preservative. This kit is specially designed to measure vitamin C content in beverages. It is based on drop count titration and is practical even for dark samples. The National Academy of Sciences recommends 60 mg of ascorbic acid per day. Vitamin C deficiency, which usually causes bone and tooth abnormalities, was first characterized by sailors in the 18th century. These abnormalities were eliminated by feeding the sailors limes, a source of vitamin C. Many vegetables also contain large amounts of vitamin C, but citrus fruits are considered the most reliable source of vitamin C, as ascorbic acid is usually destroyed by many cooking processes.
