About This Product

Description of "parallel (straight) thread for pipes"

■Summary

Parallel pipe screws have male and female threads that are parallel, so they can be screwed all the way to the end. In that case, it is necessary to use packing to prevent leakage and seal it. It is mainly used for mechanical connections and is inferior to tapered screws in terms of airtightness.

■About the name

Parallel threads for pipes are designated as "G" in the ISO standard (PF in the old JIS standard) for both male and female threads. Description of taper thread for pipes

■Summary

Tapered pipe threads have a conical shape and become thinner towards the tip. For joining, use a sealant such as seal tape. Normally, this tapered thread is used when connecting straight pipes and fittings. Tapered threads are more airtight than parallel threads, and have excellent fluid leakage prevention and water-stopping capabilities.

■About the name

For tapered pipe threads, male threads are indicated as "R" in ISO standards, and female threads as "Rc" in ISO standards (both male and female threads are PF in the old JIS standards).

■Other information: "Parallel female pipe thread (Rp) and hydrant thread (male thread)"

In addition to the above-mentioned "G female thread", there is also a parallel female thread "Rp" (PS in the old JIS standard), which is a different standard. The thread diameter and pitch are slightly smaller than the G female thread. Therefore, it cannot be connected with G male thread. Rp is a parallel female thread for joining the tapered male thread (R) and the "PJ thread (described later)", and the joining requires sealing with a thread seal like taper threads for pipes. There is also a screw called the hydrant screw "PJ" screw (male screw). As the name suggests, it is used for water taps such as water faucets. Rp and PJ are mainly used to connect water faucets because it is easy to adjust the amount of screwing.
