How to choose safety glasses
■About OD value
The OD value is an index that indicates the safety level of a laser shielding filter, and is expressed by the following formula.
OD=log10 (1÷transmitted laser light)
For example, when the OD value is 5, the amount of transmitted laser light is 1/105th of the amount of incident laser light. It can be said that the higher the OD value, the higher the safety. When selecting a filter, choose one that has a high OD value in the wavelength range used and high transmittance in the visible range.
■About frame type
There are four main types of frame types:
・Normal type
Normal type glasses are worn by people who do not use vision correction glasses. This is the simplest frame.
・Over glass type
Overglass types are frames that allow people who normally wear vision correction glasses to wear protective glasses over them.
・Insert type
The insert type allows you to attach a second removable lens. Not only can it be used for vision correction, but it can also be used with a magnifying glass and a second protective filter.
・Flip down type
The flip-down type allows you to flip up and down the second filter.
