■Summary
AOTF (Acousto-Optic Tunable Filter) is an electrically controllable spectral bandpass filter. The applied RF frequency can cut out light with a single frequency (narrow spectral width) from a white light source or polychromatic light source (Discrete Wavelength Selection). The extracted wavelength and filtered light can be changed by varying or sweeping the applied RF frequency.
It is also used in Supercontinuum Filtering and Imaging AOTF. It is used in the biological field such as Confocal Microscope and Hyperspectral Imaging, as well as in the scientific field such as LIBS and forensic analysis.
■AOTF laser line selection
Acousto-optic filters (AOTFs) are widely used in microscopy applications such as fluorescence microscopy. Fast switching between multiple laser light sources and multi-band selection of broadband lights such as lamps and supercontinuum light sources are also possible. AOTF's high-speed switching allows light irradiation to delicate and easily degraded samples. Wavelength selection is possible by changing the frequency of the RF signal to the AOTF.
In addition, by using a DDS (digital synthesizer) driver, it is possible to easily and accurately select up to 8 channels of wavelength simultaneously on the same axis. The resolution (transmission bandwidth) is determined by the optical path length and its interaction with the acoustic wave. For example, an AOTF with a wide transmission band width is recommended for a broad emission light source such as a semiconductor laser, but it requires the application of more RF power.
