About This Product

■BAS series

Battery safety sensor - CAN communication protocol - Supports wake-up signal output and mode changes for highly reliable system integration - Early detection of thermal runaway with aerosol concentration threshold of 5,000 μg/m3

■Product overview

The BAS series is an automotive-grade aerosol detection sensor that uses a light scattering particle sensor to detect and notify thermal runaway in lithium-ion batteries. Detects aerosol aggregates such as smoke, liquid, and debris, which are early events of thermal runaway, inside a sealed lithium-ion battery pack. Developed for applications requiring high quality and reliability, the BAS series measures aerosol concentration and outputs via CAN communication protocol in the concentration range 200 to 10,000 µg/m3 (with factory-set thermal runaway warning) Threshold is 5,000 μg/m3). The BAS series complies with the RoHS directive. Main features - High accuracy and low temperature drift - Compatible with CAN communication protocol - Wake-up signal output and mode change support enable integration into highly reliable systems - Early detection of thermal runaway with aerosol concentration threshold of 5,000 μg/m3 Working mode

■Sensor functions for each operating mode:

・Eco mode: When the voltage of the setting terminal is set low. The sensor wakes up for 200ms and then pauses for 12,000ms (nominal) to reduce power consumption during one cycle of 12,200ms (default). CAN communication is turned off in eco mode. If the aerosol concentration exceeds the threshold, a wake-up signal is sent to the BMS (Battery Control System), which initiates a system check of the entire battery. - Continuous operation mode: When the set terminal voltage is set high in BMS. CAN communication is on in continuous operation mode. The sensor constantly monitors the aerosol concentration and transmits it to the BMS via CAN. To shift from continuous operation mode to eco mode, set the setting terminal voltage low. Note: The factory setting is Eco mode.

■Advantages

・Reducing the risk of property and human damage through early detection of thermal runaway ・Eco mode: Enables continuous system monitoring with energy-saving operation ・Thermal runaway detection sensor: Battery development that complies with international standards and guidelines ・Customization for individual specifications: shorten time to market ・Both reduction in total system cost and improvement in reliability
