About This Product

This is an RS232 to CAN Gateway that connects to the RS232C port of a PC and communicates with the CAN bus. You can read data passing through the CAN bus through the RS232C port, or send data from your PC to the CAN bus. Ideal for use as an inexpensive and easy-to-use CAN bus monitor for testing the development of applied equipment using CAN. CAN232 is connected to a personal computer (PC) through RS232C serial communication, and can be connected to the CAN bus with a simple command from the PC side, and can be used to continuously read data passing through the CAN bus and send data to the CAN bus. . Special software is required to exchange commands between the PC and CAN232. Since the commands are in a simple ASCII format, it is possible to manually output single commands using conventional serial communication software. CAN232 supports both 11 bit ID format and 29 bit ID format. When using RS232C to connect to a PC, etc., the reception limit is determined by the RS232C communication speed, CAN maximum speed, data repetition transmission rate, internal data buffer size, etc., but FIFO memory is large. Therefore, it is difficult to overflow. It has an internal FIFO memory of 32 data and supports temporary overload, and when reading from the FIFO, the accumulated data is read at once, so it does not easily overflow even with high-speed data repetition. Each received data is timestamped in ms at the time of reception. If the receive FIFO overflows, you can tell by blinking the ERR lamp attached to the main unit. Data received from the CAN line can be set to a mode where it is automatically sent to the PC as soon as it is received.
