■PC/104 standard connector

■What is the performance of the connector?

PC/104 connectors (but not limited to) can be broadly divided into two types depending on their contact structure. The first is a tuning fork type (tuning fork shape, the sheared surface is the contact surface), and the other is the spring terminal type (the contact surface is not the sheared surface). The tuning fork type has a simple structure and is easy to manufacture because it is just a metal plate pressed out, but the contact surface is a sheared surface and has unevenness, so to increase reliability, the contact gold plating must be thick (20-30 microinches). ) must be multiplied. Since the spring terminal type uses the flat surface of the metal plate as the contact part, it is usually time-consuming to manufacture by bending and combining two or more parts, but on the other hand, since there are few irregularities on the contact surface, reliability can be improved even if the gold plating thickness is thinned. There's nothing to lose. So which structure is better? Looking only at the contact structure, the spring terminal type seems to be the winner. But which connector itself is better? Then, it is impossible to make a general statement. Performance is determined not only by the structure, but also by the basic design (housing shape material, contact shape plating type and thickness), manufacturing accuracy (is the quality always constant), etc. The perspective is completely different when considering cost.
