About This Product

Multistage liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) is a process in which extraction steps are repeated to increase product recovery. This process is necessary when recovery in a single extraction step is insufficient due to small partition coefficients. In industrial applications, liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) most often consists of a “countercurrent regime” (CC-LLE) that minimizes the consumption of extractant. In this scheme, the aqueous raffinate from one stage is fed as feed to the previous stage while the organic phase moves in the opposite direction. Therefore, even if the product recovery rate at each stage is low, a high level of recovery rate can be achieved throughout the system. In other words, in multistage extraction, extraction selectivity and process yield are separated as they depend on the number of extraction stages used, providing greater freedom to the process developer.
