Photochemistry, or the use of light in chemical reactions, has many important applications in both nature and industry. Photochemical reactions are at the heart of photosynthesis and vitamin D formation, and play an important role in the manufacture of electronic devices, protective coatings, and the synthesis of drugs and fragrances. However, traditional batch photochemistry is limited in its use by many issues such as safety, availability and complexity of equipment, control of reaction conditions, and difficulty in scale-up. The revolutionary Vapourtec UV-150 photochemical reactor eliminates the problems of traditional batch photochemistry and allows you to utilize the full potential of photochemistry. This provides safe, accurate, efficient, and scalable photochemistry under continuous flow operation.

■Reactor that can be easily replaced

The UV-150 reactor is made of a single layer of thin-walled, small diameter fluoropolymer tubing. This maximizes the absorption of photons by the reagent. The tube is built into the cartridge and can be easily removed and replaced. Standard reactor cartridges are available in 2ml, 5ml, or 10ml volumes, and smaller reactors are advantageous to minimize reagent consumption when optimizing reaction conditions. Vapourtec now offers users a rewindable 10ml cartridge.

■Real-time spectrum data

It has great advantages in photochemical reactions. The UV-150 photochemical reactor allows for the connection of a spectrometer that can measure spectral intensity, wavelength, and reactant adsorption. The reactor is equipped with a fixture for clamping the fiber optic probe. The position of the fixture allows the probe to "see" the reactor directly towards the lamp. This allows the relative spectral intensities of the reactants to be measured as the reaction occurs. Vapourtec can provide suitable fiber optic probes and CCD spectrometers as required.
