■What is a torsion coil spring?A torsion coil spring is a coil spring that receives a twisting moment around the center axis of the coil. When a moment is applied to a spring, bending stress is created in the strands. There are two directions for applying a moment to a spring: the winding direction and the unwinding direction, but the latter creates a larger tensile stress inside the coil, so when repeated loads are applied, the coil winding direction is preferable. Additionally, when using a guide rod, care must be taken in determining the diameter, as the coil diameter will become smaller when a load is applied.
