About This Product

■Features

Paper Bakelite is a thermosetting laminated material. It is an inexpensive material with excellent heat resistance and mechanical strength, so it is used for a variety of purposes. The fact that it is a laminated material is different from other plastic materials. The strength of the material differs depending on whether the force is applied vertically or horizontally to the laminate. It tends to be strong against forces in the vertical direction and weak against forces in the horizontal direction. It is a material that does not easily warp and has excellent dimensional stability in that respect. However, its water absorption rate is relatively high, and dimensional changes occur due to moisture absorption and water absorption.

■Mechanical strength

It has a bending strength of 98MPa (vertical direction) and a tensile strength of 65MPa (vertical direction), which are comparable to engineering plastic POM. Impact resistance is low, and the Izod impact strength of paper Bakelite is 21 to 40 J/m. The material is susceptible to cracking and chipping due to impact, so care must be taken during cutting.

■Heat resistance

It has the highest heat resistance among general-purpose engineering plastics, with a continuous operating temperature of approximately 130℃.

■Slow flammability

The flame retardant grade of paper Bakelite according to the UL94 standard is "HB", which is a slow flame material. Although it is not self-extinguishing, it is a material that is difficult to burn. There is a flame-retardant bakelite with a flame-retardant grade of V-0, which is a material that is difficult to burn and has self-extinguishing properties.

■Insulation

It has high electrical resistivity and is an insulating material. Although super engineering plastics have even higher electrical resistivity, they can still fulfill their role as general insulators.

■Chemical resistance

Bakelite is a relatively chemical-resistant material that is resistant to many chemicals. Resistance to acrylic solvents and strong acid/alkaline chemicals is low, so if there is a possibility that these chemicals/solvents may be used, it is necessary to check the chemicals used in each manufacturer's physical property table in advance.

■Appearance

・The upper and lower surfaces are glossy and smooth. The color becomes darker over time due to oxidation, but this does not affect the physical properties. ・Brown, black.

■Applications

Base plates for insulation, various parts for insulation purposes, various other parts, etc.
