About This Product

■Features

PEEK is a super engineering plastic with the highest level of heat resistance and mechanical strength among thermoplastic resins. Its properties of heat resistance, dimensional stability, chemical resistance, abrasion resistance, and mechanical strength are all at a high level. Continuous use temperature is 240℃~260℃, melting point is 334℃, glass transition point is 143℃. It has extremely high hot water resistance among plastic materials and can be used continuously in steam at 200-250℃. It is resistant to most acids, alkalis, and organic solvents even in high-temperature environments. However, it is attacked by some chemicals such as concentrated sulfuric acid, so it is necessary to check the usage environment and the manufacturer. PEEK is a flame-retardant material that is difficult to burn and emits very little toxic gas when burned. Due to its high mechanical strength, it is one of the most difficult plastic materials to cut. However, compared to metal materials, it is easier to cut, so it is not difficult to process.

■Mechanical strength

It has excellent tensile strength (98MPa) and impact resistance (Izod impact strength 77J/m), and maintains high strength over a wide temperature range. There are also grades with even stronger strength made of glass fiber or carbon fiber.

■Heat resistance

It has particularly excellent heat resistance among super engineering plastics. Continuous use temperature is 240℃ to 260℃, and continuous use is possible in steam at 200 to 250℃. Therefore, it can be treated by steam sterilization.

■Flame retardant

PEEK is a flame retardant material. Very little smoke, corrosive gas or toxic gas is generated during combustion, or toxic gas is generated during vacuum.

■Precautions when using and processing PEEK

As a plastic material, it has few weaknesses, but it is expensive. As an alternative to metal parts, it is the first choice if cost is not taken into account. However, it may be difficult for cost reduction purposes, so it is necessary to confirm that the specifications are not over-specified against the requirements of the parts. Due to its high hardness, care must be taken to avoid chipping during processing.
