■Advantages

Heat resistance: Generally, the continuous use temperature is about 260℃, and the instantaneous use temperature is about 300℃. It has higher heat resistance than PEEK and has very little deterioration at high temperatures, so it can be used in high-temperature environments for long periods of time. Chemical resistance: Resistant to many chemicals such as acids, alkalis, organic solvents, and fuels. Low dielectric constant: Very low dielectric constant, suitable for high frequency signal transmission. Lightweight: PI has a low specific gravity and high strength, so it is used in products and parts that require light weight.

■Precautions when using and processing

In terms of chemical resistance, it may be inferior to some fluorocarbon compounds and amines. In addition, the resistance of PI may decrease if it comes in contact with chemicals over a long period of time or is used in a high-temperature environment, so it is necessary to make an appropriate selection depending on the usage environment and application. It is a very hard material, and when cutting and processing it, it is necessary to select the appropriate tool and appropriate processing conditions.

■Appearance

Generally, it is yellow or brown in color, but there are also special PIs that have various colors and appearances, such as transparent or black. In addition, PI has a very smooth and glossy surface, giving it a luxurious feel.

■Applications

Electronic parts, automobile parts, aerospace parts, medical equipment, industrial parts, decorative parts, etc. Due to its high insulation performance and heat resistance, it is used for high-temperature parts such as electronic component boards and connectors, motor parts, automotive parts seals and valve seats, and turbochargers. It also has properties such as chemical resistance and mechanical strength, so it is used for aircraft and spacecraft parts, engine components, etc. Furthermore, because it can withstand sterilization and disinfection, it is also used in medical devices and implant parts.
