About This Product

Optical lenses compatible with the infrared (IR) region use special materials such as germanium (Ge), chalcogenide glass, and silicon (Si), which are different from those used in the visible light region. However, these materials are expensive because they are expensive and difficult to process. Additionally, there were various issues, such as the need to be careful when handling some materials as they contain toxic substances.

To solve these issues, NALUX is proposing resin optical elements for the far-infrared field that use high-density polyethylene (HDPE), a non-toxic resin material.

HDPE is a resin material that is transparent in the infrared region. However, its internal transmittance is low, and a normal lens shape cannot provide sufficient light transmittance. NALUX uses Fresnel lens shape and micro-processing/molding technology to make lenses as thin as possible.

We have created a lens for infrared rays that has sufficient transmittance even though it is made of resin. (Patent No. 5584870) This lens is ideal for cost-sensitive systems with relatively low resolution applications such as spatial temperature sensors. In addition to being used as a lens, it can also be used as a cover or window with optical functions. For applications that require higher resolution, we propose reflective optical systems that use free-form mirrors.
