About This Product

The refractive index of optical materials increases as the wavelength becomes shorter in and around the visible light band. Therefore, for example, with a condensing lens, the focal length changes depending on the wavelength, and the shorter the wavelength, the shorter the focal length (positive dispersion). A well-known method for correcting this chromatic aberration is to combine a convex lens with low dispersion and a concave lens with high dispersion. However, this method has the disadvantage of increasing the number of lenses. On the other hand, with condensing DOEs, depending on the DOE structure, the longer the wavelength, the larger the diffraction angle of light can be obtained (negative dispersion). In other words, by combining a refractive lens and a condensing DOE structure, it is possible to correct chromatic aberration and contribute to reducing the number of lenses. The DOE structure can be applied to the flat side of a plano-convex lens or to a lens surface with curvature.
