■Endoplasmic reticulum stress visualization mouseEndoplasmic reticulum stress visualization mice (Tg type ERAI-Luc mouse, KI type ERAI-Luc mouse) have an ERAI gene that uses luciferase as a reporter to visualize cells with extravesicular stress using luminescence.

■What is endoplasmic reticulum stress?Endoplasmic reticulum stress is stress caused by the accumulation of denatured proteins generated during the protein synthesis process in the endoplasmic reticulum, which is responsible for protein production within cells. Excessive endoplasmic reticulum stress induces cell death and is thought to be a factor in neurodegenerative diseases and metabolic syndrome. In addition, the relationship between diseases and endoplasmic reticulum stress is attracting attention in aging phenomena, ischemic diseases such as myocardial infarction and cerebral infarction, and various viral infections.

■KI type ERAI-Luc mouseWe knocked in ERAI with a stop sequence flanked by loxP at the Rosa26 gene locus. Crossbreeding with any Cre mouse allows expression of ERAI in specific tissues. Suppresses luciferase expression in non-target tissues, making observation easier.
