About This Product

IST is an abbreviation for Interconnect stress test, which is a thermal shock test method developed by PWB interconnect solution in Canada.

■Exam time is short

Compared to conventional thermal shock tests such as air to air and liquid to liquid, each thermal cycle takes only 5 minutes, making it possible to perform thermal shock tests in one-tenth of the conventional time.

■Compatible with reflow soldering test

IST supports high temperatures as a reflow soldering simulation. For example, a test that raises the temperature from room temperature to 265°C and then cools down to room temperature can be repeated three or six times to see the damage that the high temperatures applied during the reflow process can do to the board interconnects.

■Test mechanism

The IST coupon consists of a power circuit and a sense circuit. The power circuit has a pattern similar to a heating wire, and the sense circuit is made in accordance with the wiring (interconnect) of the actual board. By repeating the process of passing current through the power circuit to heat the coupon surface and then cooling it to room temperature with an air cooling fan, the board material expands and contracts repeatedly due to the heat, applying stress to the sense circuit. This is a test that reads the resistance value change of the Sense circuit on a graph. One cycle takes 5 minutes with 3 minutes of heating and 2 minutes of cooling, so the test can be completed dramatically faster than usual. Repeat the process of increasing the cycle temperature from room temperature 25℃ to below the Tg temperature, for example 160℃ in 3 minutes and lowering it to room temperature in 2 minutes.
