About This Product

Product introduction

■Plastic that does not melt even in fire

Molded products made from phenolic resin molding materials have the characteristic that they do not melt even when heated, making them a plastic with excellent fire and combustion resistance. Since injection molding is also possible, there is a high degree of freedom in the shape of parts. Therefore, it is possible to mold parts of various shapes. Features

■Fire resistance

- The newly developed PM-5820 has significantly improved fire resistance compared to the previous lineup. ・It has the characteristic of greatly suppressing the deformation and ashing of molded products even when exposed to the firepower of a powerful torch burner for 10 minutes. Since it is difficult for flame to penetrate, it can be expected to have the effect of slowing down the progression and chain reaction of thermal runaway.

■Moldability

・PM-5820 has excellent injection moldability such as thin wall moldability, and has a high degree of freedom in the shape of parts. By using this material in place of thermoplastic resins (engineering plastics), it is possible to create plastic parts with complex shapes that have excellent fire resistance. - Space-saving for EV battery parts because it can solve the issue of shape freedom of sheet plastic materials such as FRP and SMC and inorganic sheet materials such as mica sheets, which are used for fire resistance in EV battery applications. and can contribute to improving safety. Application example

■The PM-5800 series, a phenolic resin molding compound for battery parts with excellent fire resistance, is suitable for applications that require fire prevention, internal component protection, and shape retention at high temperatures.

Example) Lithium-ion battery related parts for EVs (electric vehicles) that require measures against thermal runaway ・Bus bars, connector covers, terminal blocks, insulation boards ・Fireproof plate ・Cell holder ・High temperature gas exhaust duct

■About the Composite Battery Module project

We are conducting a Composite Battery Module project in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Research Institute, with the aim of re-evaluating the housing design of existing EV battery modules and exploring and proposing alternative structures using thermosetting resin composite materials. We are currently collecting data from battery module operation tests.
