Visual Modeler is a plant simulator for chemical, petrochemical, oil refining, and other plants. Various process equipment such as distillation columns, reactors, heat exchangers, valves, and pumps, as well as instrumentation equipment such as flow meters, thermometers, and PID controllers, are arranged on a PFD (process flow diagram) to monitor the flow of substances ( Build a plant model by connecting each device with (piping) and information flow (signal lines).
In addition to valves, measuring instruments, control devices, etc. that have been ignored in conventional process simulators, we use a plant-level model that incorporates lines used for startup operations, spare equipment and lines, safety equipment, etc. to create dynamic simulations. Run simulations and steady-state simulations.
■Strictness of the model
The models of the units that make up the simulator (distillation columns, heat exchangers, etc.) must be as rigorous as, or even more rigorous than, process simulators. For example, in a distillation column, vapor-liquid equilibrium and heat balance calculations are performed for each stage using chemical engineering models.
In addition, dynamic calculations calculate changes in column pressure due to gas phase holdup changes. For heat exchangers, process simulators usually only require the balance of inflow and outflow, whereas plant simulators require detailed changes in internal conditions to represent dynamic characteristics.
In addition, valves that are ignored or treated as simple differential pressure units in process simulators are modeled as units in plant simulators that include the valve's flow characteristics and operating speed. The method of calculating physical properties is basically the same as that of a process simulator. However, for dynamic simulations where particularly high-speed execution is required, simpler calculation methods such as the quadratic equation for temperature are also available.
