About This Product

A new carbon material with a nano-sized porous structure developed using original technology. Utilizing features such as high conductivity and durability, it has been adopted as a catalyst carrier for fuel cell vehicles, which are attracting attention as next-generation environmentally friendly vehicles, and we are also developing new applications. We have successfully mass-produced a new porous carbon (ESCARBON® MCND) using our proprietary carbon material control technology developed by our company. Due to its unique pore structure, it is used as a catalyst carrier for fuel cells, and as a materials manufacturer we will support the realization of carbon neutrality.

■Unique pore structure

MCND uses silver acetylide as a precursor, has a dendrite structure, and has pores separated by several layers of graphene sheets. The main pores are mesopores of several nm in size.

■Achieving both “catalytic activity” and “catalyst durability” in fuel cells

MCND has been adopted in commercially available fuel cell vehicles (FCVs), and is expected to contribute to the spread of FCVs and the realization of a hydrogen society, as well as its application to a wider range of fields. MCND has a unique pore structure that increases the reaction efficiency of the catalyst, and since it is composed of several layers of graphene sheets, it has excellent oxidation resistance, achieving both "catalytic activity" and "catalytic durability." This can significantly reduce the amount of catalyst used. Since the platinum supported in the mesopores inside MCND has high catalytic activity, high fuel cell performance can be obtained with a small amount of platinum.
