A macro lens is usually a lens with excellent close-up ability. It is not limited to single focus or zoom, but if it has excellent close-up ability, it can be used as a macro lens. (The difference is not clearly defined.) All VSL series use single focus lenses to bring out the best performance. What you need to be careful about here is the magnification. Even though it is called a macro lens, it does not guarantee the best performance for all magnifications.
