About This Product

By sandwiching a special resin between two pieces of Firelight to create laminated glass, this product adds "shock safety" to Firelight's characteristic "thermal shock resistance." Even if it breaks, there is no need to worry about glass shards falling or scattering, making it ideal for schools, hospitals, and other facilities where an unspecified number of people gather.

■Firelight PlusⓇNeo

This is a fire-retardant safety glass that combines impact safety by laminating Firelight with a special resin that is so resistant to thermal shock that it will not break even if it is heated to 800℃ and then poured cold water on it. Ideal for schools where students are active, station buildings, public facilities, etc. where many people gather. Features

■Highly resistant to thermal shock

The only fire-resistant glass that will not break even when heated to 800℃ and then poured ice water on it is Firelight, which is made of ultra-heat-resistant crystallized glass with almost zero thermal expansion.

■Clear visibility without a net

Clear visibility almost equivalent to regular window glass. Demarcate fire zones with firelights to ensure familiar evacuation routes and visibility.

■No risk of natural damage

Heat-resistant tempered glass has the problem of breaking unexpectedly even when no external force is applied to it, but Firelight is a glass that does not have to worry about this.

■Research on the behavior of fireproof glass components under actual fire heating conditions

Materials for observing and measuring how fireproof glass components behave (occurrence of breakage, etc.) under conditions similar to actual fires, and how these components behave in response to water spray. This was a joint research project conducted by the Fire Research Institute, the University of Tokyo, ERS Co., Ltd., and Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd., with the aim of obtaining the following.

■Experiment method

Fireproof glass measuring 1.22 m x 1.93 m was attached to the frame material in an experimental section measuring 4 m x 4 m and with a ceiling height of 2.3 m. The heating specifications used a two-tier stack of No. 2 cribs as a simulated fire source, and ensured the temperature in the upper part of the compartment at around 700℃ for 15 minutes. Then, when the unheated side of the glass reaches its maximum temperature (approximately 470°C), a water sphere made of polyethylene film (300 cc to 930 cc of water) is made to collide with a predetermined position from a height of 50 cm.

■Experiment results

Firelight showed no change at all even after heating and being hit by a water ball, which simulates an actual fire. The heat-resistant tempered glass broke into small pieces and fell off due to the temperature difference during heating and the collision with the water balls, causing a large fire to erupt.
