About This Product

DinorexⓇ is a special chemically strengthened glass developed for use as cover glass for mobile terminals such as smartphones and tablets, as well as in-vehicle displays and other new applications, and protects display screens from scratches and impacts. DinorexⓇ can significantly reduce the chemical strengthening process time compared to conventional products. In addition, since it is molded using the overflow method, it is thin and has a smooth surface, does not require polishing, and there is almost no warping of the glass even after chemical strengthening.

■Features

・High reinforcement properties (High CS, Deep DOL) ・High productivity ・High transmittance

■What is DinorexⓇ?

It is a coined word combining "Dinosaur" + "Rex" (meaning "king" in Latin). The "strength and sturdiness" of this product against cracks and scratches is likened to the Tyrannosaurus rex, known as the strongest dinosaur.

■The secret of DinorexⓇ, a chemically strengthened glass that is highly resistant to impact.

By immersing a glass containing sodium ions (Na+) in a potassium nitrate solution containing potassium ions (K+), the Na+ on the surface of the glass is replaced by the larger K+ in the solution (this is called ion (called "exchange"). This creates a force called compressive stress on the surface of the glass, making the glass strong enough to not break even when hit with a hammer, for example.

■What is compressive stress?

When K+, which has a large diameter, replaces Na+, which has a small diameter, and enters the glass surface layer, it naturally becomes crowded, and the volume of the glass surface tends to increase. However, since the volume of the glass itself does not change, a force is generated that tries to compress the surface in the opposite direction. That is "compressive stress". Even if a force (tensile stress) is applied that tries to widen the cracks on the glass surface, this compressive stress cancels it out, making it difficult for the cracks to propagate and, as a result, to break.
