■Temperature medium for the range –100℃ to 550℃
Fluke Calibration carries bath temperature media for temperatures ranging from –100°C to 550°C.
There is also a convenient heat source that requires only a small amount of media at any temperature range.
Viscosity, volatility, and other temperature-dependent properties affect bath and circulator performance. At Fluke Calibration, all media we handle are tested and actually used. Within the temperature range recommended in the specification table, the viscosity of each medium is kept low enough to allow for proper agitation and circulation. Whether your application is industrial or demanding temperature standards, you can be assured of the highest level of performance and stability.
■About media specifications
There are several specifications you need to understand before choosing a medium. Media specifications may include a temperature range from freezing point to flash point.
For example, type 710 silicone oil has a temperature of -22 °C, but this freezing point is independent of the temperature at which the medium becomes too viscous to stir well. Type 710 oil can only be used above 80 °C. This is a viscosity specification issue, not a freezing point issue.
The range of usable viscosities depends on the bath agitation and pump design. Fluke Calibration baths are available with viscosities up to 50 centistokes, extending the lower end of the usable temperature range. The temperature range in the specification table is based on Fluke baths.
■In addition to temperature range and viscosity, specifications that must be considered when selecting a temperature medium for baths include the following:
・Thermal properties
·lifespan
・Changes in characteristics caused by temperature cycles
・Absorption of moisture from the air
·evaporation
・Expansion due to heat
- Contamination — due to oil mixture or dirty probe
・Thermal conductivity
・Effects of specifications outside the specified temperature range — combustion, explosion, polymerization
・Effect of altitude on boiling point
