The triple point of water (0.01 °C) is one of the most important temperatures in ITS-90. However, achieving and maintaining triple point water cells is not always easy or cost-effective.
ITS-90 calibration requires frequent measurements of the water triple point, and the water triple point is often used regularly to check for drift in temperature standards, making the water triple point easy to achieve. , it is very important to be able to maintain it.
Fluke Calibration's 9210 TPW Maintenance Instrument has a built-in program that supercools the 5901B Mini Fixed Point Cell and uses vibration to easily achieve and maintain the triple point of water. All you need to do is insert the cell into the 9210 and press the "freeze" button on the front panel.
When the 9210 alarm sounds, take out the mini fixed point cell and apply vibrations to partially solidify the water. If you put the cell back into the 9210 and change the program to "maitain" mode, it will maintain a temperature of 0.01 °C for the day with an uncertainty of ±0.0005 °C.
The 9210's excellent stability and uniformity can also be used for comparative calibrations using precision-machined soaking block inserts. Inserts measure 178 mm and can be ordered as pre-made or custom inserts with multiple holes.
