About This Product

Honeycomb material: A panel formed from aluminum sheets, paper, composite materials, etc. into a honeycomb shape.

■Features

Honeycomb core panels are highly effective in reducing the weight of structures, but conventional construction methods can only produce flat plates with uniform cross sections, and while they are widely used, there are strong restrictions on their shapes. By fundamentally changing the manufacturing method, the origami method enables the production of a variety of honeycomb cores and their panels, including variable cross-sections and curved surfaces, making it possible to meet diverse needs on demand. It was devised at the University of Tokyo using an original technique that applies the theory of origami engineering to bend and bend a metal sheet with slits. By changing the bending position for each row, it is possible to manufacture honeycomb cores with variable cross sections such as airfoil cross sections, curved surfaces, and diagonal core shapes, and it is also possible to improve functionality such as light transmission and light blocking. Furthermore, because it does not use adhesives that are difficult to position and process, it can be expected to have high shape accuracy and lower costs.
