About This Product

■Summary

Converts linearly polarized incident light into radial/azimuth polarized light by controlling the polarization state using a nano-order periodic structure formed inside fused silica glass (a structure in which the principal axis direction of the 1/2 wavelength plate changes continuously) It is a possible birefringent element. It is also possible to form optical vortex beams using this device.

■High damage threshold

Since it is not a polarization conversion element that combines multiple split wavelength plates using adhesive, it has a high damage threshold (high heat resistance) against the incident beam.

■High polarization conversion efficiency

Converts incident polarization with nearly 100% polarization conversion efficiency at the design wavelength.

■Axisymmetric polarization conversion

Since there is no effect of dividing lines like in a dividing wave plate, it is possible to convert into axially symmetrical radial/azimuth polarized light even at the center of the element.

■Specification of topological charge

Topological charge can be specified within the range of -25 to 25.

■Applications

- When focusing a radially polarized beam using a large NA lens (>0.9), a smaller spot diameter can be obtained compared to focusing using a linearly polarized beam. ・When radial polarized light/azimuthal polarized light is focused using a lens, all polarized light components behave as P polarized light or S polarized light, so processing efficiency in laser processing and optical trapping efficiency in optical tweezers (holding force in the optical axis direction (becomes higher).
