About This Product

■Summary

The polarized high-speed camera "CRYSTA" is a revolutionary camera that introduces the concept of "polarized light" to high-speed cameras. Conventional methods perform analysis by rotating the polarization element, but "CRYSTA" implements micro-polarizers with different orientations in each pixel, making it possible to perform polarization analysis from a single image. The "PI-1P" model achieves polarization image analysis at a rate of 7,000 images/second at full frame and a maximum of 1.55 million images/second. In addition, the "PI-5WP" model is equipped with a retarder array necessary for analysis of circularly polarized light components. The polarized high-speed camera "CRYSTA" can be used for a variety of purposes, including observation of high-speed phenomena such as stress propagation, dynamic changes during crystal growth and film stretching, and integration into interferometers and film thickness meters.

■Core technology “Polarized high-speed image sensor”

It is equipped with an image sensor jointly developed by Photron and Photonic Lattice that implements a photonic crystal micro-polarizer array with different orientations for each pixel. This polarizer array functions as a polarizer at wavelengths of 520 to 570 nm, and a polarization image can be obtained by analyzing the polarization information of each set of 4-pixel intensity data. Polarization image analysis is possible without driving a polarization element as in the conventional method.

■Can also be used as a monochrome high-speed camera

A monochrome intensity image can be calculated from the acquired polarized image. In addition, the micro-polarized light used by CRYSTA degrades its function as a polarizer on the long wavelength side, so the "PI-1P" model, which is not equipped with a bandpass filter, can produce high-speed monochrome images without calculation processing. It can be used as a camera. (Depending on the polarization state of the lighting device, the pattern of the polarizer array may appear in the image.)

■Main uses

・Observation of stress propagation during impact fracture tests ・Observation of crystal axis orientation during crystal growth ・Dynamic orientation distribution during film stretching ・Internal stress propagation during laser processing ・Integration into interferometer ・Integration into film thickness meter ・Measurement and visualization of physical quantities and properties in various fields such as bio, military, aerospace, etc. ・OEM, object recognition, transportation/infrastructure, functional materials, polarization inspection/measurement, transparent fluids, etc.
