■Function overview
Industrial camera interface GigE Vision® V2.0 compliant IP core. GigE Vision® uses an Ethernet cable, and the standard supports up to 1000BASE, so the transfer rate is relatively slow at just under 1Gbps, but since it can use inexpensive and widely used Ethernet, cable costs can be reduced. Moreover, if the receiving PC is equipped with an Ethernet function, there is no need for a frame grabber, which keeps system costs low. Each company has independently implemented support for 10GBASE, making it possible to support high-speed transfers.
Copper cables can extend up to 100 meters, and optical cables can extend for hundreds to tens of kilometers, allowing the PC for image capture to be moved away from the camera installation location, increasing the flexibility of equipment installation.
Demand Creation's GigE Vision® IP core implements the image transmission function that requires high-speed transfer into hardware, and other low-speed processing is handled by the firmware of the processor inside the FPGA. The firmware library is provided as C source code, and functions can be changed or added as needed.
This IP supports PTP/IEEE1588 adopted in GigE Vision® 2.0. This feature does not require any special external Ethernet PHY or MAC. This IP provides a hardware/firmware library for PTP, allowing you to implement PTP functionality with an inexpensive FPGA or Ethernet PHY.
