About This Product

■Coupling degree/directivity/insertion loss

The characteristics of a waveguide type directional coupler include coupling degree, directivity, and insertion loss. Now, if the input power of the main waveguide is Pi, and the positive output power of the sub waveguide is Pf, the degree of coupling is defined by the following formula. Coupling degree C=10 log10 (Pi/Pf) [dB] When the flow of radio waves in the main waveguide is reversed and the power transmitted to the same terminal of the sub waveguide is Pr, the directionality D is expressed by the following formula. Directivity D=10 log10 (Pf/Pr) [dB] The insertion loss I..L of a directional coupler is expressed as the sum of the loss αD due to power distribution of the transmission power Pi to the sub-waveguide and the loss αw of the main waveguide itself. In other words, insertion loss I..L = αD × αW Therefore, insertion loss changes depending on the degree of coupling.
