About This Product

■Summary

The Sunshine Sensor is a patented design. It measures incoming solar radiation using an array of photodiodes with a unique computer-generated shading pattern. The microprocessor calculates total solar radiation and scattered solar radiation to determine solar radiation conditions. A built-in heater protects the BF5 from dew, ice, and snow down to -20°C. Two analog voltage outputs are provided for global and scattered solar radiation. The sunshine status is represented by a digital output (contact closure). The three outputs can be connected to the appropriate channels of a data logger such as the Delta-T GP2 or other loggers commonly used for environmental monitoring. The BF5 sensor can be used as an additional sensor in a traditional Met Station. Weather station loggers are used to record global (total) and scattered solar radiation and sunshine conditions (or durations). Power to the sensor comes from an internal alkaline battery or the weather station's logger battery. Data are typically used for global and scattered solar radiation, as well as daylight hours. Direct beam radiation is calculated by subtracting the divergence from the sum. Radiant output units can be preconfigured for energy, PAR, or illuminance.
