About This Product

The Q-Box RP1LP low-frequency breathing package is designed to measure the metabolic rate of small animals such as insects, reptiles, amphibians, other invertebrates, and small mammals in open-flow or stopped-flow gas exchange systems. Automatic calculations of VO2 and VCO2 are displayed in the software during data collection. The Q-Box RP1LP Low range Respiration Package can also be used to measure CO2 and O2 exchange in the headspace above the water surface with fungi, microbial colonies, or aquatic organisms. When combined with the Qubit Gas Switching System, respiratory rate and RQ measurements are possible in up to 7 organisms (8 channel system including reference).

In the latter, the flow is stopped for a period of time to allow CO2 to accumulate and O2 to decrease. The flow is then opened and the gas passes through the sensor for measurement. The start and stop of flow through the chamber with the animal is automatically measured within user-specified time periods in the software. Applications include measuring metabolism from gas headspaces above aquatic suspensions. For example, yeast fermentation measurements. The Q-Box RP1LP can be used to measure the O2 consumption and CO2 production rates of almost any biological system within the range where these changes in pCO2 and pO2 are measured by the analyzer.
