■Overview of hexavalent chromium-free chemical conversion treatment [ACF]

Chemical conversion treatment of aluminum involves bringing the aluminum alloy into contact with a chemical solution to generate a chemical reaction, forming a metal salt film on the surface, which provides paint adhesion and corrosion resistance. It is used in a variety of fields, including beverage cans, automobile parts, and building materials, as well as as a base treatment for painting. However, the disadvantage of chemical conversion treatment is that it has inferior corrosion resistance compared to alumite. Up until now, treatments have mainly used hexavalent chromium to improve corrosion resistance, but in recent years, from the perspective of protecting the natural environment and preventing health hazards, there has been a shift to chromium-free treatment solutions that do not use hexavalent chromium, which contains toxicity. The transition is progressing. However, the drawback of chromium-free treatment is that it is difficult to maintain sufficient corrosion resistance. In order to achieve both chromium-free treatment and improved corrosion resistance, we have developed two types of highly corrosion-resistant chemical conversion treatments (ACF treatment): trivalent chromium-based and chromium-free. By incorporating our high corrosion resistance chemical conversion treatment (ACF treatment) as a countermeasure against impurities, it is possible to improve high corrosion resistance and paint adhesion.
