Our "Tough Guard" is a hard alumite specializing in wear resistance. In terms of hardness as well as wear resistance, when the amount of wear per 1 μm of hard material according to the JIS standard is 1.0, Tough Guard is approximately 1.8 times as good. The color tone is grayish-black to black. Originally, we tend to think that wear resistance is something that is required of hard anodized aluminum. However, the actual wear test for alumite requires many test methods, and there are many complex points that are unclear, such as "which material should be used, which method should be used, and how should it be carried out?" Generally speaking, hard alumite tends to refer to hardness, but judging from usage examples, it is best to describe it as "wear-resistant alumite" for its intended purpose. One of the commonly misunderstood aspects of alumite is "hardness" and "wear resistance." It is said that it is wear resistant because it is hard, but this actually refers to a case where the bonding force is strong only with the film.When it is changed to another material such as a sealant, the film becomes soft and wear resistant. tends to decline.
On the other hand, if hard alumite is required for hardness, sealing treatment is not performed. The reason for this is that amorphous γ-alumina changes into a hydrate when it seals, reducing its hardness. Therefore, the purpose of sealing is when corrosion resistance is important, and it is not normally performed. It is possible to increase the hardness of the surface layer by using special sealing holes, but this film has weak bonding strength and wear resistance is on the same level as normal hard alumite. Care must be taken when using it, as it may damage it.
Our Tough Guard is a treatment developed to solve the problems caused by the misunderstanding of hardness and wear resistance as described above. The film itself has strong bonding strength and sufficient hardness, with particular emphasis on wear resistance.
