■What is expanded graphite?Graphite obtained by intercalating acid between graphite layers in flaky graphite is called expanded graphite. The acid intercalated between the layers changes from liquid to gas by applying heat. At this time, the space between the layers is widened and the material expands, increasing its volume by more than 200 times.

By taking advantage of this property and compounding it into resin or putty, expanded graphite receives heat and expands in the event of a fire, playing a role in preventing the spread of fire and smoke. In addition, expanded graphite is non-halogen and is an environmentally friendly material.

■Development of expanded graphiteExpanded graphite was originally used primarily as a flux material for steelmaking. However, new uses have been increasing in recent years. Among these, "flame retardant applications" are increasing, and it has become necessary to produce a different grade of expanded graphite than before. We cooperate with a factory in Qingdao, China, and currently maintain over 30 types of expanded graphite grades, and can provide custom-made production according to each customer's wishes.
